The Jharkhand government has issued a precautionary alert to its hospitals in response to a mysterious pneumonia outbreak reported in Northern China. In a directive to district administrations, Additional Chief Secretary for Health Arun Kumar Singh emphasized the need for constant vigilance, surveillance, and preparedness.

The alert aims to monitor respiratory illness trends, especially among children, and respond promptly to any emerging public health concerns.Jharkhand's health authorities have placed hospitals on high alert following reports of a pneumonia outbreak in Northern China.

Additional Chief Secretary for Health Arun Kumar Singh has directed district administrations to intensify surveillance, monitor disease trends, and enhance preparedness for potential respiratory illnesses. The alert acknowledges the ongoing influenza season and anticipates an increase in respiratory illness cases, attributing it to various causes such as influenza strains (H1N1/H3N2/H5N1/H9N2), mycoplasma pneumonia, and SARS-CoV-2.

Singh urged officials to strengthen flu and respiratory clinics in medical colleges, district hospitals, and health centers. Additionally, the microbiology departments at RIMS-Ranchi and Mahatma Gandhi Medical College in Jamshedpur have been designated as sentinel sites for testing suspected samples.

District administrations are required to ensure that health facilities, including private hospitals, report all suspected cases promptly. The directive also emphasizes assessing oxygen availability, supply chain readiness, and conducting mock drills for emergency situations.
